Local Net ads are projected to jump 31.6% to $7.5 billion in 2007 in just one year, according to new research from Borrell Associates. Newspapers are expected to top the segment, with a 35.9% share, closely followed by Web companies like Google, Yahoo!, Monster, at 33.2%.
While Borrell is looking solely at statistical growth from year to year, other advances have the opportunity to increase this number even more significantly. In particular, the launch of the iPhone later this month incorporates Google Maps functionality, which utilizes local paid search results. In addition, incorporating this functionality into the phone will strengthen the local pay-per-call model.
Additionally, the increasing purchase and use of GPS units is becoming even more commercialized, showing brand preferences in localized results. I predict that you’ll see an increasing number of partnerships with GPS and mapping companies as more users seek services at a very local level.
