I predict that 2008 will be the year that the Web and home theatres begin to merge. By then end of 2008, you’ll see more products bringing the two mediums together.
I think Apple will step up efforts promoting AppleTV – as folks become more familiar with iTunes (through ubiquitous iPods and now iPhones). Ads for similar products, such as Netflix streaming movie downloads will also contribute to the mix. Just this week, Microsoft also announced plans to begin marketing “media extenders” – set-top boxes (similar to AppleTV) to bring web content to TVs.
As users become more familiar with these interfaces on concepts, I think you’ll see more Internet-enabled tvs and products that allow you to seamlessly connect your computer and TV by next Christmas.
