You can’t go more than an hour these days without hearing someone mention Twitter. Everyone’s doing it, especially after Oprah’s announcement a couple of weeks ago that she’s doing it. Over the last month, interest in Twitter has grown shockingly fast, as proven by Google Trends data…

However, research firm Nielsen reported this week that approximately 60% of those who sign up for Twitter, stop using it after a month. Of course Twitter is all the rage and everyone is signing up just to see what it is all about. I must admit that when I signed up for Twitter about a year ago, I let the account sit for a while… I really didn’t get the point. However, I forced myself to use it at the end of last month, and now I probably check it more often than email. It’s been an invaluable source of information and communication, and I only see it getting more valuable as it becomes more mainstream (and more of my friends and business associates start to use it). I have noticed however, that it has caused a little bit of an overwhelming feeling to be so connected all of the time and I find it nice to step away from it every once in a while. To those who are just getting started on Twitter… stick with it, even when you don’t see the point in it. It’ll come to you sooner rather than later.
