A new Nielsen/NetRatings study found that readers in almost every top 10 local market have been loyal to their top hometown paper online. Local newspapers claimed an average of 19% of the local Internet readership, and held the top spot among the city’s online readers for online newspaper sites. The only exception was Philadelphia, where online readers favored USA Today over the Philadelphia Inquirer. According to eMarketer estimates, newspapers will have online revenues of $1.4 billion this year, and rising to $2.26 billion by 2008.
