Commercial Planning

I was just watching Fast Money on CNBC, where, suprise, they were discussing the iPhone. They had the Northeast Vice President of AT&T on, who brought them an iPhone. They talked about the iPhone for several minutes and the VP from AT&T delivered a speech that looked like he was reading it off of a teleprompter. Anyway, after all the hype about the iPod, and after ordering pizzas from the iPhone (I can do that on the phone I got free with my contract), they went to commercial. What commercial do you think followed the segment? Yes, it was an AT&T spot… but it was advertising the new Blackberry.

Unless you’ve been living in a cave, you probably know that the iPhone comes out today. While some are predicting a huge rush for the phones – which I’m sure we’ll see live on national TV tonight – others are predicting that many will wait to see the initial reviews of the phones. We’ll see.

Sharing Files on WebHave you ever tried to email a video of your kids or someone high quality family photos over the Internet. Or, have you ever had to break up those family photos into 20 different emails, just to get the email size down small enough so you could send it to the person. Even gmail, which gives you a lot of storage space, limits the size of files you can attach to an email to someone else. And even if you can attach a large file to your email, the receiver’s email service might block it for being too big. Driveway – Online File Sharing(http://www.driveway.com) is a new, free, web based service that can help you solve that problem. The online file sharing site provides you a place to put those large files. It allows files up to 500MB in size (compared to the 10MB gmail and other email services limit you to), and gives you a link to direct the person to in order to access the files. The link can then be posted anywhere from email to blogs. Soon you’ll also be able to password protect the files, so you’ll be sure only those you want to view the files are able to do so. Check it out. Sharing Files on Web

Teens and Social Sites

According to a recent study by Alloy Media & Marketing, a whopping 96% of online tweens and teens connect to a social network at least once a week. They’re telling marketers: ‘Enhance or facilitate my social-networking experience. Offer me utilities to enhance my production process or tools to help me better able to express or engage myself.’” In other words, give them freebies: utilities, cool downloads, exclusive content and other items of value.

The study also asked about traditional media habits and found social networking is approaching parity with TV time among 9- to 17-year-olds. And when kids are multitasking, they’re four times more likely to pay closer attention to whatever they’re doing online than to whatever they’re watching on the tube.
