How Innovation Happens SXSW 2015

How Innovation Happens SXSW 2015I was able to catch How Innovation Happens with Walter Isaacson (the Aspen Institute), Megan Smith (United States Chief Technology Officer), Eric Schmidt (Google), via live streaming at SXSW.com/On.

Much of the conversation seemed to focus on diversity in technology. Specifically, they talked quite a bit about the struggle to get more women and girls to consider technology as a career.

It also seemed to focus quite a bit on government regulation and the need for Google to spread their fiber broadband to be available everywhere. The feeling is that access to tools and education is required for innovation. There are still many places that don’t have these resources.

I wished they would have talked more about how they approach innovation or testing new ideas. Overall, they mainly discussed the challenges facing technology companies today, including finding a skilled and diverse workforce and government regulations.
