Just a few years ago, in the dawn of social media, many companies were trying to figure out how to silence their employees. They were concerned employees will spill company secrets or say inappropriate things that were not approved by their PR teams. Today, companies have learned their employees can be their best and loudest advocates.
When it comes to social media strategy, employees are often forgotten… even though it’s easiest to engage this group. They already love appreciate your company/brand and share in its success or failure. Therefore, they are invested in sharing your information with their friends, family and social connections outside of the company.
Today, I participated in a social media seminar and was once again reminded of the importance of employee advocates. One of my colleagues named it as one of their most successful tools for growing their followers and increasing engagement.
In addition, this week, I saw a video that AT&T created for their employees in order to help them speak on behalf of their brand online. Â They call it the AT&T Social Circle, an employee advocate program, and they created a very quick, very simple, fun video to train employees on the do’s and don’ts of representing the company on social media. I must say, they did a great job of condensing a lot of great, necessary information into a short, two minute video.
